Born in Tofino and raised in Ucluelet on Vancouver Island, Francis grew up hunting, fishing, hiking and beachcombing the wild west coast.
His passion for the outdoors provided him with the opportunity to meet a fellow outdoorsman, and eventual mentor, Dr. Don Neritini, a local Ucluelet dentist. Through the many discussions with Don, Francis, at the young age of 16, set his sights on becoming a dentist and carved out his career path.
Francis attended the University of Victoria and pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology and cellular physiology. He was granted early admission to the University of British Columbia Dental School. Simultaneously, Francis enrolled in the Dental Officer Training Program with the Canadian Military. Upon graduating from the 4 year dental program, Francis was posted to Lahr, West Germany as a One Canadian Division dentist from 1986-1990, with a final posting to Petawawa, Ontario with the Canadian Airborne Regiment.
In 1991, seeking new challenges, Francis began private practice in Qualicum Beach. In 1998, his dream to build his own practice came to fruition with the opening of the Arbutus Dental Clinic. Francis, along with his friendly, helpful, profession staff continues to provide quality dental service to their patients. An avid life learner, Francis continues his professional development through his membership with the Canadian Academy of Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics, the Island Pursuit of Dental Excellence, and the BC Comprehensive Dental Treatment Study Group.
While not at work, Francis continues to enjoy the outdoors by fishing, golfing and beachcombing with his wife, Lesley, and three sons, Conner, Kai and Aslan.
